Sue Smail is a lifelong resident of Wayne County graduating from Wooster High School and attended Akron University. She received her paralegal degree from Wooster Business College and was a paralegal specializing in probate/estates.


While raising her children, she was employed in the oil and gas industry and later started her own business, SAE Oil, Inc. and plugged idle and orphan wells as a subcontractor for the State of Ohio DNR.


Sue is a 2013 graduate of the JoAnn Davidson Leadership Institute and a 2011 Tribute to Women Honoree by the Ohio Federation of Republican Women. She is past Wayne County Republican Party Chairman and is currently President of Wayne County Republican Women.  She was an alternate delegate to the 2012 Republican Convention. She has been active in her community, serving on the board of the Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority for a total of 16 years, a number of those years as Chairman and is a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Wooster.


Sue was elected to the office of Wayne County Commissioner in November of 2016 and currently serves as the Board President. She aggressively pursued the formation of the Wayne County Land Reutilization Corp. (Land Bank) and is an advocate of  utilizing agricultural security areas to assist in deterring development. She serves on CCAO Joint Board of Election Committee and the Jobs Economic Development Infrastructure Committee.


She resides just outside of Wooster with her husband, Jim where they raise Hereford cattle and meat goats. They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Her hobbies include reading, travelling, and flower arranging.
